Airy frankincense with sugary sweet accord
Encens Suave is a sweet airy frankincense fragrance. By "airy" I mean it is the sharp flinty frankincense of Series 3: Incense - Avignon, Cardinal, or Mortel, rather than the denser resinous frankincense found in many Amouages for example. The sweetness is a bit too much here, and I find it similar to a similar accord...

Cheap synthetic fragrance
A nauseating, calone-heavy sharp peppery aquatic. Unbalanced, the citrus and aromatics don’t come through anywhere near how much they should, hidden behind a fog of ozonic/aquatic chemicals. Kind of reminds me of Aqva pour Homme Eau de Toilette but more synthetic and headache-inducing. Retail price is $65 so you can’t...

Boozy rather than chocolatey
Xocoatl smells like it's straight out of Kilian's "The Cellars" collection. I'm definitely drawing parallels to Straight to Heaven, White Cristal Perfume. There's a similar woody/boozy patchouli/rum thing going on here, just not as "dirty" as Straight to Heaven's patchouli. The notes listing on Parfumo seems to be inco...

The combination that shouldn't work but does - blueberries and oud!
I was ready to hate Blueberry Morning. This fragrance was the first I tried from the large Aromas de Salazar sample set, and I usually start with the one I think I'm going to dislike the most so I can save the best for last (for those interested, I'm looking forward to Tabac Du Jour the most). I have tried one of this...

Slightly sweet, powdery oud. Price unjustified
Strangely, Haibah opens with a blast of animalic barnyardy oud. I say strangely, since there are an apparent FIFTEEN top/head notes that are supposed to temper the oud's strong opening. I don't perceive any. The mid is also pretty oud-dominant, with not too many other notes coming through. Only about an hour in do you...

Designer-y freshie
Got a decant of this because it was being hyped on a Facebook group I'm a part of. It's decent but it seems almost arbitrary what fragrances get hyped up because I wouldn't look twice at this one if it was amongst other designer-y freshies. The opening and scent in the air is a slightly salty calone/ambroxan-based soap...

Dark and Gothic but somehow nostalgic
On first spraying Sleepy Hollow, you smell heady jasmine combined with fall spices. Eventually this leads to a sort of dank and musty accord that dominates the rest of the fragrance. Mostly it smells like dead leaves and hay, furthering the "fall" theme. I think this is the first time in perfumery where I've really fel...

Bitter smoky oud and coffee with dry woody base
On first spray of Oud Luwak II, I felt similarity to choco-ouds I had tried before: Oud Indochine, Lao Oud Extrait de Parfum, Oud Monarch Extrait de Parfum to a lesser extent, but deeper and more animalic, as if a dose of Al Oud had been added to one of those. It is also very light on the sweetness, bitter strong coffe...

Soapy chypre with clove
Atlantic Ambergris II is essentially a soapy chypre with the animalic facet provided by ambergris rather than the more traditional civet or castoreum. It's heavy on the tonka bean giving it an old-school feel, especially combined with the florals, bergamot, and oakmoss. I was going into this one expecting a powerful am...
