If Barbie Were a Little Freaky...
…then she might possibly smell like this subtly naughty violet. Actually, I don’t usually like violet scents. They often feel too powdery to me and tend to evoke that lipstick-like, overly made-up impression that I really don’t want to have. The backstory: As a young woman, I had a dark purple lipstick with a violet scent, which I not only had in my nose when I wore it but also constantly tasted while eating and drinking. Therefore, I usually avoid fragrances with a prominent violet note. Insolence by Guerlain is a typical representative of these perfumes that I prefer to steer clear of. Since Vincent Avery has often managed to excite me with notes that are usually a deal-breaker for me - I’m talking about melon, cashmeran, or even moss - it doesn’t surprise me that I also really like the violet in the wonderful perfume Thoughts of Whom I Wish to Pass the Night with. It is powdery here as well and a bit dry, which harmonizes beautifully with the wonderful, rather sweet-leaning musk it works with. The scent is less overwhelming than Memories of a Dream with its characteristic moss note and has only a hint of grunge compared to the more jasmine-heavy fragrances Coralie or Tree of Sorrow. Overall, Thoughts of Whom I Wish to Pass the Night with feels very delicate to me for an Ikiryō, which might also be due to my very small sample. Whether it smells more intense when sprayed from the large bottle, I can only judge once the bottle is with me. Because you can guess three times. I naturally bought it. Those who do not like Vincent's musk will probably not enjoy this scent. However, those who usually find the brand's fragrances a bit too powerful might find this delicate powder scent appealing. I cannot directly identify pear, water lily, and ginger. It has neither the typical maltol sweetness that many fragrances with pear in the top note bring nor a characteristic sharpness of ginger. Here, if that is supposed to be ginger, we rather get a mild ginger shot with rather subtle fruitiness. The Barbie association from Larasu, to whom I also owe this sample, fits for me, although I would never see Vincent's perfumes on a typical Barbie doll. The fragrances are too independent, if you know what I mean. They fit perfectly, in my feeling, with the outfits that his models wear. A bit wild, a bit baroque, often a bit freaky. But there is a gentle hint of plastic that resonates here in the opening for me, and that can indeed bring Barbie to mind. However, not the good girl version for little children, but rather a lady with fishnet stockings and sultry makeup. Violet and musk clearly dominate here, and the scent fades out softly, with a slightly dirty, skin-like quality. I find it absolutely wonderful. Once again, thanks to Larasu for the testing opportunity. Updated on 03/12/2026
