Youth Dew - A Softer Offspring
Is there really a "mini" that I haven't tested yet? That just came to mind while sorting. Two small "Fendis". One has "Uomo" written on it. The other just says "Fendi". No other clues. I immediately went to "Parfumo", opened the Fendi page, and searched for the bottle shape including the cap. And I found it. The little one looks exactly like its big sibling in the picture above. My curiosity about the scent was piqued when I saw that it was neither marked as "tested" nor did I find any statement or comment from me here. So, let's get to testing; a tiny drop from the cap is more than enough to reveal the full splendor of its inner life. At first, there are many different aromas reminiscent of neroli and citrus fruits. These soon blend with a powerful, spicy floral scent. Everything is very powdery and quite bitter, just to my taste. Immediately, the old Lauder veteran Youth-Dew Eau de Parfum comes to mind. There are indeed similarities. This spiciness, this matte powdery shimmer, the hint of green, the many wonderful "intense" notes in the base, woody, mossy, balsamic. Only the Fendi EdP is softer, somehow has "rounder shapes" that Lauder doesn't like to show. This one goes "all out," while the Fendi first "plays" with all the scent notes, turns and twists them, and then slowly comes to rest. It unfolds in deep warmth and bitter elegance. While Fendi and Youth Dew have quite a few similarities, it seems to me that THIS one is a new generation that has shed the somewhat (admittedly beautiful) clumsiness of the "parent generation" and takes "softer paths." Rarely beautiful!!
