Excotic Dream

When you spray Khaiyyal for the first time you will receive a powerful impression, because this fragrance is really imposing. A strong raw oud with tons of leather, pepper and bergamot. An explosive opening. The good part is after a while the leather and oud settle down a bit and it becomes more wearable and shareable, otherwise would it be too annoying for yourself and others. The musk is more noticeable at this point. There's a green note that must be the pepper, but it reminds me a lot of indian vetiver. This note is very promiment. The leather is very animalic, but somehow it smell so royal. The oud is raw and dark but not fecal or animalic. It's not a complex fragrance (pretty linear I must say), however the ingredients used in this blending are top notch giving a complex nature overall. Even considering that the notes could be daring and too strong, Khaiyyal smells so refined, luxurious and original. A truly hidden geme. Excellent performance. Presentation is oustanding. Dubai is a dangerous place for perfume lovers. Among overloaded oud bombs, sweet amber clouds, and tourist crowd-pleasers, there are sometimes fragrances that tell a completely different story. Khaiyyal by Arabian Oud belongs to this category for me. What surprised me immediately: This scent is not a typical oriental. No sticky sweetness, no syrupy amber, no sugary oud. Instead, Khaiyyal starts surprisingly dry and structured. The opening initially feels almost fresh: Bergamot and pink pepper set a spicy, slightly citrusy top note. But this phase is just a brief prelude. Very quickly, the true character of the fragrance takes over. And that character is clear: leather and oud. The oud is dark, dry, and controlled. No stable, no medicinal wood hammer - rather a structural element. The leather brings a certain severity, almost something equestrian, which fits surprisingly well with the name Khaiyyal (“rider”). Saffron and pepper keep the fragrance spicy and slightly smoky, without ever becoming heavy or sweet. What I particularly like: Khaiyyal feels like an Arabic scent with European discipline. It reminds me more of a dry leather composition from a Parisian niche brand, just with the typical oud depth from the Middle East. Not a fragrance for attention at all costs - rather one for quiet presence. When I wear it, I always feel that it has a clear stance: not loud, not accommodating - but very self-assured. Khaiyyal is for me one of the more elegant and underrated fragrances from Arabian Oud. A dry leather-oud with spice and character - and a beautiful example that Dubai can be not only opulent but also surprisingly stylish and controlled.
