Is this supposed to be a drugstore scent?
0 found helpful
Even before I amusingly watched a video featuring the fragrance introduction last night, I was at Rossmann testing it out. I saw all three scents there and thought to myself, "Coachella? Is this going to smell like a drugstore?" And inevitably, my hand wandered towards Wonder how you feel. I sprayed it, and what can I say? I was completely blown away. And that’s saying something, considering I hate resins, and you can clearly smell the Elemi resin in the top notes. That's why I initially didn’t want to like the scent. But the test strip kept finding its way back to my nose, and I returned to the shelf to test it on myself. As I said, you can immediately detect the resin. The frankincense is also noticeable. You can certainly smell the other notes as well, but in the dry down, they really come into their own. I don't smell much of the pepper, though. Wonder how you feel can best be described as spicy-sweet-velvety. I was so excited that I didn’t even think about testing the other scents. I’ll get to that later. Babycat completely passed me by, so I can’t make that comparison. However, the scent in the dry down reminded me a bit of By the Fireplace by Replica. Just in a nicer way. In my opinion, the scent becomes quite close to the skin fairly quickly, but the longevity is really very good for a drugstore fragrance. Overall, you can say that it’s a ridiculously good perfume for the price, proving that even in the lower price segment, it’s possible to create fantastic, niche-smelling fragrances. I've had much worse niche scents under my nose. Of course, one could nitpick, but for me, it’s the surprise of this autumn.

And everyone was talking about baby cats

"SOTM Babycat", "SOTD Babycat", "SOTE Babycat", "SOTN Babycat", that’s how the ticker often read last autumn and winter. "There must be something to it," I thought to myself, and soon I was researching and searching. Four matches with a drugstore scent that I can test while passing by? So that goes straight onto my watchlist. While I’m cautious with scents from the horse shop, I know that (for me) there can indeed be real little treasures in a few cases. They require a similar level of effort to find as real treasures, but once you’ve discovered them, the feeling of happiness is no less than with expensive designer bottles. So I tested it on-site and hey - it’s actually good! A sweet-spicy incense greets me warmly, without evoking any serious church associations that make me envision sitting in a cold stone building. I’m enveloped in a warm sweetness and move on (a long stay in the horse shop is not my idea of leisure). Once home, the scent has settled, and I find myself on bare "lived-in" wood with a leather seat, cozy and inviting through a resinous component and a rather authentic vanilla that pairs quite well with a slight nuttiness from the tonka bean. But who would I be if I didn’t make a 1:1 comparison with the baby cat? When the AF arrived, I immediately did the single test: wow, no one can deny a resemblance, but here I’m getting more cat (finest leather) than baby (sweet notes) overall. The impression is confirmed in the direct comparison. The leathery baby cat indeed has a fine smoky quality, but leaves a slightly dusty-serious impression - maybe it’s been wandering around in the attic? The individual scent notes are delicately woven together, and the luxury scent is of extremely high quality, but no, I wouldn’t want to cuddle with the cat. Here, I actually prefer the drugstore scent: yes, it’s not as refined, but it doesn’t give me the impression of a musty attic find from long ago. It’s warm and smoky, softly sweet, and somehow comforting during the dark season with a sense of familiarity. The sillage is good, and the longevity (for my taste) is almost too good, but for performance enthusiasts, it will definitely suffice. Now I almost feel like grabbing a book, a scent, a blanket, tea, and a chair...

What a lucky find..

It was a day like any other, a day when I once again wandered around the local Rossmann, just looking to see what new things there were. Of course, my path led me along the perfume shelf.. and of course, I couldn't pass it by. I can never resist taking the next test strip and sniffing away wildly. I browsed a bit, hoping to find a new scent that was still unknown to me. Besides a few new ones from La Rive and some other "drugstore designers," I stumbled upon an unfamiliar "brand." Coachella.. hmm. Well, I know it's that influencer music festival, but I had no idea they were also producing (or having produced) perfume. The bottle is very unassuming. Simple, a bit more natural due to the wood, and without unnecessary frills. The print on the label gave me more of an impression of a "tester" than of the original bottle. Curiosity got the better of me, and I first tested the one whose name appealed to me the most. Wonder how you feel.. hmm. I had absolutely no associations with any possible scent notes with this name. However, I admittedly thought of something fruity and squeaky when I heard Coachella. Maybe something youthful-sweet. But I was wrong. When I sprayed it on and (stupidly) took a breath too quickly, I was a bit overwhelmed. It was quite strong in the nose, which initially put me off. Nevertheless, I could already sense notes of vanilla, and I thought I would let it dry a bit and test it again. And indeed, the wait was worth it.. in the drydown, it packs a punch. I don't think I've ever been so shocked and smitten by a drugstore scent. It comes off leathery, vanillic, deep, sweet, and somehow niche. I felt really comfortable and immediately got cozy vibes. Quite the opposite of the beginning, the scent becomes incredibly soft and beautiful. And I was instantly smitten. I didn't have to think long, and it was immediately on the checkout belt. Even at home, I couldn't keep my nose off my wrist.. for ages. The scent lasts and lasts, unbeatable for the price. I briefly checked online to see what exactly was in this bottle, and lo and behold: saffron?! I was very surprised.. of course, this scent is definitely a bit strong when sprayed, but those piercing moments fade away very quickly. I'm usually someone who can't stand this note at all. It's too intense, too medicinal, and piercing for me. Anyone who has told me how sweet and lovely perfumes with saffron smell has met with my complete incomprehension. Even after days of testing, I never grew tired of the scent; on the contrary.. it has quickly become one of my favorites. Completely unexpectedly. You have this wonderful cloud of vanilla-tonka bean and incense around you all day. Plus these slightly resinous notes. Just amazing. Saffron or not, I was in love. Friends and acquaintances also find the scent very beautiful, immediately asking where I got it and are astonished when I mention that it comes from the drugstore. Unfortunately, I don't know the Babycat that is often mentioned in the comments and haven't smelled any similar perfumes so far. But that's that. I am completely convinced and look forward to using the scent every time. Absolute recommendation from my side!

Luxury Cat in the Drugstore Basket

Sometimes, it doesn’t take grand promises to bring a cozy scent smile to your face. This fragrance feels like a softly spicy incense dream that doesn’t preach loudly but whispers softly. The incense here is wonderfully tamed. It’s not a church pew overkill, but rather a floating hint that immediately creates a warm, almost meditative atmosphere. This cloud of smoke is carried by soft vanilla, which gives the fragrance a creamy, slightly sweet sense of comfort. The vanilla is by no means sticky or gourmand, but rather appears elegant and understated. Beneath it all rests in a cedarwood bed, dry, smooth, and soothing, with a fine leathery note that gives the fragrance structure and character without becoming dominant. Overall, the fragrance feels like a very familiar luxury moment. Warm, soft, slightly smoky, and absolutely unexcited. This is where the comparison comes into play. It’s indeed a bit “Babycat from the drugstore.” Not the big couture cat with a golden bow, but the well-behaved kitten that purrs on the sofa and still seems surprisingly grown-up. The performance is very solid! After all, it is an Extrait de Parfum, and you can feel the high concentration of fragrance oils, pleasantly noticeable and perfect for everyday wear, the office, or cozy evenings. A scent for everyone who loves incense but doesn’t want to wear a cathedral, and who appreciates vanilla when it is more fluffy than overly sweet. Updated on 02/16/2026

Babycat's Little Sibling

Discovered by chance on YouTube, smelled it the next day and was shocked that this scent isn't being hyped to death. Because with Wonder How You Feel, Coachella brings niche to the drugstore. Although it’s listed among women's perfumes, for me it’s definitely unisex. It’s truly a fragrance that stands out in the drugstore by a long shot, it’s really unbelievable. And in this case, in a positive sense. After "Exquisite Leather | David Beckham," this is the second find in the drugstore that is really worth it. Because the little Coachi, as I now call the scent (since the name is too long to repeat here 10 times), really starts off resinous-woody. In the first second, it reminds me, no joke, of "By the Fireplace | Maison Margiela." However, if you smell a little longer, you immediately notice the vanilla and the pepper (I couldn't really pick out the saffron). This also creates a slight tingling sensation in the nose. Combined with the woody vanilla accord, this is truly an incredibly successful composition of fragrance materials. Thus, it reminds one of its big role model, "Babycat | Yves Saint Laurent." However, I find that it is definitely not a 1:1 copy. In my opinion, Babycat is significantly leatherier and sometimes even less approachable, at least for the general public. I could only smell the leather accord in Coachi in the middle. Towards the end, Coachi becomes noticeably sweeter, warmer, and the tonka bean takes over its part in the finish, providing a rounded conclusion. For €30, you get a fragrance in the drugstore that not only smells niche but also exhibits a similar complexity and finesse. Of course, it must be noted that Coachi doesn't radiate the same perfection as a Babycat. This is certainly not to be expected in this price category, yet it blew me away. Accordingly: Recommendation!
