Too Flat for Real Frankincense Lovers

0 found helpful

Lilau, whom I thank for the sample, is completely right with her comment. But those who know and love frankincense scents like Avignon, Jaisalmer, or Kyoto will inevitably think with Incense: And what comes next? But nothing comes. Neither aromatic, nothing really woody, nor floral, no green notes, nothing that really tells a story. The scent remains as it is from the first spray to the last trace of the nonexistent base, as I cannot discern a real pyramid. Incense could be the frankincense scent of a brand that recommends layering its fragrances.

Patchouli at its Finest

awaits me. As ChaiTee already describes, this fragrance benefits from a bit of patience. In my opinion, it doesn't start like church incense; I also belong to the strictly Catholic-raised faction, but rather like a strict leather whip. Phew, I thought at first, and off with it. It's too leathery, too cold. But then it actually develops. Patchouli gradually takes up more space in a balsamic way: Soft, sweet-unsweet, for patchouli it's rather subtle, the incense appears as a little "aftertaste". However, I must add here that I have experienced both many incense overkills, church-related - in my hometown there was a priest who preferred to hold long Latin masses with swinging incense kettles until the neighbors couldn't recognize anything - (by the way, I actually liked it, it was so dramatic) and some patchouli invasions during my school and university years. In short: I really like this fragrance; I will probably wear it often on patchouli days. After the leather whip, a fine patchouli scent, hmmh.

Oriental in a Different Way

Thank you Calliste for this special smoky scent, I enjoyed testing it. First of all, one must like incense, patchouli, and resins to enjoy this fragrance. While I do like patchouli and incense, it also depends on the dosage. Here, incense and labdanum, a resinous incense, come together and define the overall picture of Incense. I immediately think of church, myrrh, and the Three Wise Men, but this is not meant negatively; rather, warm and cozy thoughts flow through my mind. When these notes settle a bit, without undergoing a major development, patchouli comes out a little more. Yes, then I find Incense successful and wearable. I can even filter out spicy pepper with tobacco, although it is not listed. Then the fragrance gets that oriental woody touch that I usually like so much. The longevity is excellent, noticeable for several hours. However, the opening is simply too smoky and resinous and too harsh for me. For fans of these scent preferences, this should be the ideal companion. Therefore, it is also very suitable for men.

Surprise in the Bathroom Cabinet

0 found helpful

This scent has been sitting in my cabinet for quite some time - way at the back, because it's hardly ever used. I still remember when and where I bought it; I remember it went on vacation with me, I even remember where - but I no longer know what made me get a fragrance in a pink box and such an unattractive bottle. And now I thought to myself, before I part with it, I should at least try what’s in this bottle. And what can I say? One must not be deceived by appearances. As pink as it looks, it’s really not that way at all. I currently find it pleasantly warm and woody, it blends well with my skin and lasts quite a long time. However, I need to spray it on some time before I leave the house; my daughter claims it smells at first like 'old man' and 'somehow like church' - hence like an old priest. And I really don’t want to smell like that. But once this initial phase is over, it’s a beautiful scent for the cool season. However, it must not be over-applied.

No Bang

Because my family is Catholic, I often went to church with my parents on Sundays as a child. I still remember well how I received the incense back then. When I was very little, I wondered where this intense smoky smell could possibly come from; at first, I thought my mother had put on a strange perfume, but no, that couldn't be, because she always smelled so good? Maybe my grandma? Not her either, I realized that no matter who I sat next to, that smell was there. I didn't like it very much; it was too intense for me, so much so that once, when I was really sitting in a cloud of incense, I fainted. Bang! I was gone. Just like that. In church. No joke. In the meantime, I've become a bit more friendly with the typical incense smell; it just can't be too strong, which is why the Williamson Incense is just right for me! A delicate smoky scent, it doesn't overwhelm you, it's something different, I don't know a similar scent (yet). By the way, I have already left the church for some time; I think you shouldn't have to pay an entrance fee if you don't want to attend the events anymore. Well, that's another story!
